How To Tell Google About Your Website

So you’ve got a new website…yay! But it doesn’t come up in Google results – boo! 

Allow us to introduce a new tool to get your website out there… Google Search Console . You don’t have to sign up for Search Console to be included in Google Search results, but Search Console helps you understand and improve how Google sees your site.

Google Search Console is a free service offered by Google that helps you monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot your site’s presence in Google Search results. 

Search Console offers tools and reports for the following actions:

  • Confirm that Google can find and crawl your site.

You are invisible online if Google can’t find your site. Use the Google Search Console tool to tell Google about your great new site, and get it indexed with all the relevant info so you can start showing up in search results.

  • Fix indexing problems and request re-indexing of new or updated content.

What is Indexing? Simply put, during indexing, search engines try to catalogue the information on a website found in the crawling phase. Indexing problems can include showing up for wrong search terms, wrong locations or pages that should be hidden being public.

  • View Google Search traffic data for your site: how often your site appears in Google Search, which search queries show your site, how often searchers click through for those queries, and more.

We love data (as any online marketer should!) and Google Search Console is full of it! Having access to all these reports means you can make insightful changes and updates to your website for even better organic reach. 

  • Receive alerts when Google encounters indexing, spam, or other issues on your site. 

Be informed as soon your site is down or has issues on a platform. This is invaluable for any business that relies on organic web traffic.

  • Show which sites link to your website

If you’re getting referenced or linked to from another website, you are able to track that back, either to reciprocate the favour or to respond to any possibly defamatory material.

How To Use Google Search Console:

Search Console is a web-based product that you use in your browser. You will need:

Go to https://search.google.com/search-console/about and follow the instructions to set up your account and start getting your website listed. Then set a calendar reminder to check every month on your reports to make sure you’re taking full advantage of all the information available.
